Gladiatus: Online Game Review

Gladiatus.us is a multiplayer online game which you can play for free without needing to download anything. It is basically as strategy game where you take on the character of a gladiator in ancient Rome, and you can then customize your characters and build it up through training, quests, work, buying weapons and equipment and so on to gain fame, honor and riches fighting against other players in the arena.

What I Like About This Game

This can be quite an addictive game, and there are plenty of different things for your gladiator to do other than fighting in the arena. There are various lands to explore with different places of interest in each one, there is a constant supply of quests for you to do, which are good at the start to help you to learn how to play the game, and later on can help you to get the gold you need to build a great gladiator. There is also a wide range of weapons and armour, as well as amulets and alchemical potions for you to earn or buy, and there is a good social element to the game with forums, a market to trade with other players and so on. Also the fact that when you have used armour or weapons they become 'soul bound' meaning that you can't get rid of them later, means that you do have to think about the kind of gladiator you are creating and can't just keep constantly upgrading or swapping things at every chance you get.

What I Don't Like About This Game
Although the winner of an actual gladiatorial contest  is calculated instantly, anything else you do such as work, quests and so on takes time, and you have to wait around with nothing to do until it is completed before you can do anything else (work is actually in real time, so if you choose to do 8 hours work you can't do anything for 8 hours, though this does just mean that you do a work shift just before logging of so that you have the money next time you log on).

Because of this you can't just sit down and play it for for than a few minutes at a time, which can get very frustrating. You can reduce this waiting if you want to spend some real money buying 'rubies' for the game, but generally it is one to have on in the background while you are doing something else, rather than to sit down and play on its own.
